Liebe GITEC-Freunde, -Mitglieder und -Interessierte,
wie Ihr gemerkt habt, ist die GITEC Website stark überarbeitet worden. Wir hoffen, dass die neue Struktur einen einfacheren Zugang zu Inhalten und Wissen ermöglicht:
- im Prinzip ist die gesamte GITEC-Wissens-Sammlung im "Wissens-Archiv" untergebracht. Dort finden sich nicht nur die jeweils 1. Seite unserer Fachartikel, sondern jetzt auch thematisch eingebunden direkte links to the entsprechende Kapiteln des Buches "Physik der Elektrogitarre" (PdE), das ja das Fundament des GITEC-Wissens darstellt.
- Im "Community"-Bereich ist alles weitere untergebracht: Neuigkeiten, Infos, Downloads, Einladungen zu Meetings. Dort findet sich nun auch eine Sammlung der Einzel-Kapitel des PdE-Buches. Fragen können in diesem Bereich gestellt werden (was dann vielleicht einmal die Basis für eine FAQ-Sammlung bildet), und ganz neu ist dort die Rubrik mit der Vorstellung von Mitglieder-Projekten;
- Eine Unterabteilung des Community-Bereiches ist der nichtöffentliche Mitglieder-Bereich. Dort finden sich die Fachartikel in ihrer Gesamtheit sowie Material aus den GITEC-Meetings.
- Eine besondere und sehr aufwendige Ergänzung ist der englischsprachige Bereich. Er wird wieder ausgebaut, sowie wir zu den jeweiligen Übersetzungen kommen.
Es ist nicht davon auszugehen, dass die Website nun schon irgendwie perfekt wäre - im Hinblick auf weitere Verbesserung sind Eure Kommentare gern gesehen! Und: schaut immer mal wieder rein, denn es sind weitere Fachartikel im Werden, und wir hoffen, in absehbarer Zeit auch einen FAQ-Bereich posten zu können!

What’s going on in the Knowledge Base: news and tipps!
Here we want to give you some info about what's new in the knowledge base, and also what to find where. This probably really necessary while we are only in the process of building up the English language section of our website.
So stay tuned and check back often!
Right now our main focus is to push ahead with the translation of the Book. More and more chapters of "Physik der Elektrogitarre" should become ready and generate the English language book "Physics of the Electric Guitar". These translated chapters will appear in the knowledge base and in "The Book" page (in the content with PDF-links) as they are done.
We also plan to translate the additional scientific articles one by one as capacity and time is available.
If you have a special interest in individual chapters of the book, or in specific articles, please let us know via the contact form - maybe we can shift our focus accordingly and get some translation you are interested in done earlier.
By the way: if you feel you could help with the translation process, please get in touch with us! We are looking to set up a kind of "crowd-translation" process in orders o speed up the translation - and we need all the help we can get! Write to us!

Gitec-Jahresmeeting
Der Termin für das dritte GITEC-Meeting steht fest:
14. und 15. Oktober 2017
Die Location ist, wie in den Vorjahren, der Lokschuppen der Music Academy (Anfahrtsplan hier) in Regensburg.
Hier könnt Ihr Euch anmelden - die Teilnahme ist für GITEC-Mitglieder kostenlos, für Nichtmitglieder fallen € 50.- (Studierenden € 10.-) an. Die Geschäftsbedingungen finden sich hier.
Zu den bereits angekündigten Themen stehen jetzt auch die Referenten fest. Bitte die Titel noch als Arbeitstitel verstehen. Das endgültige Programm mit Kurzzusammenfassungen werden wir dann im September bekanntgeben. Alle Vorträge werden mit praktischen Beispielen versehen sein.

Dazu wird noch eine „Poster-Session“ ablaufen, bei der die Möglichkeit gegeben wird, spezielle eigene praktische Projekte vorzustellen, die für die Meeting-Teilnehmer interessant sind. Die Postersession wird folgende Themen beinhalten:

- Hörversuche mit dem Fuzz-Face (auch als Simulation)

- Elektroorganische Musikinstrumente: intuitiv, handlich, vielseitig

Hiermit möchten wir Euch recht herzlich zur diesjährigen Mitgliederversammlung einladen, die wir im Rahmen des GITEC Meetings in der Music-Academy am Samstag, den 14. Oktober 2017 gegen 17:00 Uhr im Anschluß an die Vorträge und Workshops dieses Tages durchführen wollen.

Übersetzer gesucht!
Liebe Mitglieder bei und Freunde von GITEC,
es zeigt sich immer wieder, dass das Buch "Physik der Elektrogitarre" in seinem wissenschaftlichen Ansatz einerseits und seinem weitgehend erschöpfenden (sic!) Umfang andererseits weltweit einzigartig ist.
Translators wanted!
Dear members and friends of GITEC,
we continue receive confirmation that the book "Physik der Elektrogitarre" (Physics of the Electric Guitar) is – globally – one of a kind, both with regard to the truly scientific approach and the extent with which it covers the subject. However, it is also clear that most of "the globe" does not have any access to the contents of the book, simply because the language it is written in – German – does not have any widespread prevalence compared to English.
Given this situation, we (in the board of GITEC) decided last November to address the issue of the translation of the book. Checking in with a number of translators did not only show that the cost would be exorbitant. Even more problematic was the fact, that the knowledge even of technically experienced translators quickly hit boundaries in the face of the multidisciplinary character of the contents of the book: instrumentation, material science, mechanics, systems theory, tube (valve) and solid state technology, musical and psycho-acoustics, plus much more. This results in a necessary checking and reworking effort which we are not able to provide. Last not least, the sheer scope of the work to be done is a bad match to the business models of scientific translators. They prefer to provide smaller share of their capacity to a multitude of clients and do not like to dedicate a big proportion of their capacity to a single client. In any case, we have so far not been able to find a translator who could (or even would) do the translation as a whole.
Since we do not want to waste too much time, we have adopted a different strategy, namely a kind of "crowd translation". Everybody who has the capacity, the knowledge and the "drive" may contribute. Depending on the individual, the circumstances and the result, monetary recognition is not out of the question. So if you are a student seeking to de-escalate your financial situation - think about it.
We suggest that those who are interested pick a (sub-) chapter from the book as it is accessible online and translate two pages – first without consideration of the figures i.e. focusing on the text only. That way you can see how much work the translation is going to be and whether this kind of work is something for you to begin with. You could send the two pages to us so we could check whether the style is reasonably in line with what we have line up. And then you would be free to "translate at will"! By the way: with regard to possibly necessary corrections to the text we are hoping for some kind of "crowd-checking".
Some of us are already working on the translation. Considering the amount of work there is relatively small progress - but something is happening!
In the following, a content listing of PdE/PotEG is included. The chapters which already have been translated are shown - together with the name of the translator in green. The chapters which are "under (translation-) construction" are listed in red (again with the name of the translator). The black chapters are the ones which do not have a "master" and are waiting for you!
